PM warns "we must proceed with caution"

This week more people across the UK have enjoyed greater freedoms as further Covid restrictions were lifted.

As of Monday (March 29th) the rules changed. Now, groups of up to six people from different households or more but from a maximum of two households are permitted to meet in public outdoor spaces.

Outdoor sports facilities such as tennis or basketball courts also reopened - as well as open air swimming pools. Parent and child groups are now permitted to take place in outdoor public spaces.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the nation at a press conference on Monday warning us all we must proceed with caution.

"I must stress that it is only because of months of sacrifice and effort that we can take this small step to freedom today," he said. "It is great to see that yesterday we recorded the lowest number of new infections for six months. Deaths and hospital admissions across the UK are continuing to fall. But that wave is still rising across the Channel and it is inevitable as we advance on this roadmap

that there will be more infections, and unavoidably more hospitalisations and sadly more deaths."

To date the UK has vaccinated more than 30 million adults. But as restrictions continue to lift we must all keep following the government guidelines to help stop the spread. Wash hands frequently, keep a social distance and wear a face covering when necessary.
